Origin of Just Another Love Story - An Audio Narrative Project

Just Another Love Story began as an accident. I was bored, trapped in my hometown with no Internet, virtually cut off from the only world I knew. So I wrote. Then I thought, why not read aloud? And then I recorded. Voila. The audio narrative project was born.

Truth be told, this was going to happen sooner or later. I've always read aloud anything that I wrote, particulary because I love storytelling, and I love pacing my stories with the right pauses and emphasis in my mind. There is something emotional about inflection and vocal cues that writing alone cannot convey. I've always wondered if those who read my works, read it in the same way that I did. Did they get every little poignant pause, or did they find golden nuggets where I missed them? I thought it'd be fun to let the world know how I read my stuff for once, and see if they agree with me or not.

Moreover, I've always loved narratives, movies with a storyteller, or comic books featuring an omnipresent narrator, or simply stories told from the perspective of one recounting a tale. So now it's my turn to do one such narrative. In a way, it was inspired by the movie I was watching as I wrote this. Ru Guo Ai, a quasi-musical in which an actor acts out his love for the actress who is also his co-actor. It is a show in a a show, something reminiscent of Moulin Rouge.

For me, this story fills more gaps than one. After writing Autumn Leafs, I've always wanted to do another love story. But Autumn Leafs was real to me, and I'm always honest in my writing. I don't like to change more facts than necessary when I'm drawing from my life. While I've began writing the sequel, Autumn Leafs: Fall Again, I simply can't pen beyond the starting few paragraphs. Partly because I do not know how the story will end, and partly because I still retain the hope that the story will actually have an end. So while I struggle with my dilemma of drawing the line between reality and fiction, Just Another Love Story sets me free by allowing me to write a fictional piece that still contains my thoughts on love, but unbound by the chains of history.
